A quote from “Canadian Heritage Gallery”
“eastern British North America had entered a new era in 1815, with the ending of the Napoleonic and American wars. It was an era to be marked by surging British immigration, commercial and agricultural expansion and political strife, as rising reform movements came up against entrenched colonial elites.”
Going off my first document of learning, talking about shifts in culture, one of the biggest shifts of culture was the British Immigration around 1815. I chose this article because it really shows how big the British immigration was, and how these immigrants, have ultimately changed how Canada is today. It has made a large impact in agriculture, trade, politics, and many other areas. It has really started a new chapter in Canadian history and played a big step in defining Canada’s identity. The impact of this immigration also relates to part B3 in our PLOs, describing the contributions of immigrants to Canada’s development.
